PTSD & Trauma
Understanding the condition
You control what you share and when. Trauma-informed care does not require you to describe every detail before safety and trust are established.
The first discussion can focus on present difficulties: sleep, feeling unsafe, unwanted memories, avoidance or changes in relationships. You can ask about the process before deciding how much of the experience to describe.
When an assessment may help
Consider support when symptoms after a traumatic experience continue or disrupt daily life. If danger is ongoing, immediate safety and practical support take priority.
Intrusive memories, nightmares or flashbacks
Avoiding reminders, conversations or places
Feeling constantly alert, irritable or easily startled
Emotional numbness, guilt or disconnection
Sleep, concentration or relationship difficulties after trauma
